Athens Area Stand Down
Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Athens County Fairgrounds | 286 W. Union Street, Athens

What is a Stand Down?
“Stand Down” is a military term that refers to taking a break from
being on the battlefield. “Stand Down” events refer to community-
based programs that help those who are homeless or at risk of
homelessness “combat” their problems and rebuild their lives.
Specialized services are provided exclusively to veterans. Many
social service agencies will be on hand to provide free information
and resources to both veterans and non-veterans.
Why should we have one?
We are hosting this event because the need is great. Our local
human service agencies and community organizations tell us the
need for helping both our homeless population and those at risk of homelessness is immense and only seems to increase.
Why are we writing you?
The Stand Down is volunteer-driven and depends on donations.
Because of this, we are inviting donations of money, time, resources
and services to make this regional event a success.  Our web site
has a list of some of the things we need and hope to provide.
NOTE: We are planning to serve 300 individuals on this day. You may
have other ideas of what to provide, and we welcome your feedback.
